MUJU, Korea (Jun 2, 2025) - Around 70 Taekwondo practitioners from 23 countries gathered at Taekwondowon in Muju, Korea, on June 2 for the opening of the 2025 WT Partnership Taekwondo Program. Running through June 8, the program offers intensive Taekwondo training alongside immersive cultural experiences in Korea.
The event is hosted by World Taekwondo (WT), with Taekwondowon provided by the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF) as the official venue. The program is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
Since 2016, WT has been operating the Partnership Taekwondo Program, bringing together youth and Taekwondo practitioners from around the world. The program aims to foster cross-cultural understanding and build global networks through Taekwondo. This year’s edition features a new participant lounge within Taekwondowon, designed not only as a rest area but also as a central space for interaction and community-building. A photo zone has also been set up to provide participants with memorable experiences in a comfortable and engaging environment.
WT President Dr. Chungwon Choue conveyed a message, “This gathering, where we are united through Taekwondo beyond borders and languages, is a true embodiment of WT’s vision for global solidarity. I hope participants will not only enhance their techniques but also embrace the values that Taekwondo represents.”
The opening ceremony was attended by WT Secretary General Jeongkang Seo, TPF Chairman Jungheon Kim, and other distinguished guests.
TPF Chairman Kim remarked, “As the spiritual home of Taekwondo, Muju Taekwondowon is honored to welcome members of the global Taekwondo community. Through this program, which integrates cultural exchange and education, we hope you enjoy a meaningful experience, gain valuable insights, and share them with your peers upon returning to your home countries.”
After the opening ceremony, Ayella Andrew from Uganda shared, “It’s an honor to join the Partnership Program. I’ve been touched by the warm welcome, and I’m incredibly excited to experience all that lies ahead and to share these memories back home.”
Throughout the week, participants will engage in Poomsae and sparring training as well as cultural excursions. A second session of the program is scheduled for October at the same location.
While open to anyone with an interest in Taekwondo and cultural exchange, applicants who register through their national Taekwondo federations are given priority.
The program promises to be a meaningful opportunity for global Taekwondo practitioners to share their experiences and build lifelong friendships.
