World Taekwondo Strengthens Coordination with Continental Unions on Elections and Governance

SEOUL, Korea (Mar. 5, 2025) – World Taekwondo (WT) hosted a high-level Continental Union (CU) Coordination Meeting to enhance governance, standardize election processes, and reinforce integrity measures across its five Continental Unions.

The meeting brought together leaders from the African Taekwondo Union (AFTU), Asian Taekwondo Union (ATU), European Taekwondo Union (ETU), Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU), and Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) to review election rules, compliance requirements, and operational planning ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

WT confirmed the official election dates for each CU:

  • ETU – April 12

  • AFTU – April 24

  • PATU – June 19

  • ATU – July 24

  • OTU – May (exact date TBC)

To ensure transparency and consistency, WT emphasized the importance of compliance with standardized election procedures and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting each CU in conducting smooth and fair elections. As part of these integrity efforts, WT will assign official observers to monitor CU elections.

Integrity and Governance Enhancements

A proposal was introduced to establish two new working groups:

  1. Ethics and Integrity Working Group – Focused on strengthening governance coordination, ethical education, and enforcement in line with WT’s global standards.

  2. Rulemaking Working Group – Aimed at enhancing policy development, regulatory alignment, and best practices for governance.

These initiatives reflect WT’s ongoing commitment to transparency, ethical leadership, and stronger collaboration with CUs.

Next Steps

To uphold best practices in governance, WT will continue hosting regular CU coordination meetings to facilitate smooth election procedures, reinforce integrity measures, and ensure alignment with global governance standards.
