World Taekwondo President attends LA28 IOC-IF Transition Seminar in Lausanne

 

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Jan. 21, 2025) - Having celebrated an immensely successful Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue and Secretary General Jeongkang Seo were in attendance at the LA28 Transition Seminar organized by the International Olympic Committee for the International Federations held on January 20-21, 2025.

 

The seminarfocused mainly on building the success and learnings from Paris 2024. The seminar was also an opportunity for World Taekwondo to discuss the operational planning for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA.

 

During the seminar, a commemorative Paris 2024 Torch Handover Ceremony was held. IOC President Thomas Bach presented an Olympic Torch from the Paris Games to each International Federation in recognition of their contributions to the success of the Games and to the Olympic Movement.

 

President Choue also had a private meeting with President Bach during his visit to Lausanne, during which he thanked the IOC President for his leadership and support for Taekwondo throughout his presidency.

 

“President Bach has been a great friend of Taekwondo throughout his presidency, not only in terms of the development of the sport at the Olympic Games but also inspiring the hopes and dreams of refugee athletes through the IOC Refugee Olympic Team,” said President Choue.

The President continued, “Change or be changed, as President Bach had said. This was what World Taekwondo has done numerously over the past decade with our innovations and becoming the leading IF in humanitarian activities.”

 

President Choue also extended his invitation to the IOC President to attend the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships in Wuxi, China, where President Bach will be awarded the Taekwondo Humanitarian Trophy, which was unanimously decided by the Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation Board of Trustees at their meeting the day before. President Choue also asked for the IOC’s support for the inclusion of the mixed team event as an official medal event at the LA 2028 OIympic Games.

 

IOC President expressed his appreciation for the invitation, and thanked President Choue for its efficient organization of the Taekwondo competitions in Paris.

 

 

 

The IOC is scheduled to elect a new President at its 144th Session in Athens, Greece, on March 20, 2025.
