Gangwon Chuncheon 2023 World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge concluded today

 

CHUNCHEON, Korea (Aug 22, 2023) - The Gangwon Chuncheon 2023 World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge concluded today.

 

Athletes across three weight categories, K44 M-80kg, K44 M+80kg and K44 W+65kg, competed today in search of gold medals, putting on an excellent display for the fans in attendance at the World Taekwondo Cultural Festival.

 

Uzbekistan’s Kudrat Muhammadiev beat Kazakhstan’s Zhanbolat Kaziyev in the K44 M-80kg final to win gold with Kaziyev settling for silver. Jeonghun Joo of Korea and Abulfaz Abuzarli of Azerbaijan won the bronze medals.

 

In the K44 M+80kg, it was another gold for Uzbekistan as Asadbek Anvarov beat Korea’s Teahun Kim in the final to claim the top prize. Japan’s Chikara Ito and Brazil’s Pedro Paulo Neves Da Silva won the bronzes.

 

While in the K44 W-65kg, the medals were decided in a head to head between Peru’s Laura Puntriano and Uzbekistan’s Guljonoy Naimova in the final. Puntriano won the gold, denying Uzbekistan a clean sweep of all the gold medals on the final day as Naimova took silver.

 

Today’s three weight categories followed on from the five that were competed in yesterday with a total of eight weight categories across the two-day competition.

 

The World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge will take place again next year during the Gangwon Chuncheon 2024 World Taekwondo Cultural Festival in July which will also include the World Taekwondo Demonstration Championships and World Taekwondo Octagon Diamond Game.
