Three London 2012 Taekwondo Olympians to Attend WTF Youth Camp

10-21 May 2013

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) is thrilled to announce that three London 2012 Olympians will be attending this summer's OCA-WTF Joint Taekwondo Youth Camp in Bangkok, Thailand.

The three Olympians will visit from August 2-4 and will train and share what it means to be a champion with young taekwondo athletes. The camp aims to promote sport, healthy lifestyles and Olympism to young people and it is part of the OCA's 2013 Asian Youth Development Project.

The visiting athletes will be:

Jingyu Wu of China, a two-time Olympic gold medallist from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, two-time World champions and former Junior World champion; Dae-hoon Lee of Korea, an Olympic silver medallist at London 2012 and 2011 World Taekwondo Champion; and Chanatip Sonkham of Thailand, a bronze medal winner at London 2012.

WTF President, Chungwon Choue, commented:

"It is a great honor to have three world-class taekwondo athletes joining us at the Youth Camp this summer. Jingyu Wu, Dae-hoon Lee and Chanatip Sonkham have shown their passion and expertise on the biggest stage of all at the Olympics, and all have come away with medals.

"The presence of these Olympians will inspire our young athletes while their knowledge of the sport will boost skill development. The camp will hopefully play a part in nurturing Olympic-level champions of the future but it is also a marvelous opportunity for young people to build international relationships.

"Promoting fair play and sportsmanship is integral to the how the Youth Camp is managed and I am confident that young people who attend will become excellent ambassadors for sportsmanship and international friendship and cooperation."

This announcement follows the recent partnership between WTF and the Olympic Council of Asia. The partnership has been founded on the WTF and OCA's shared goal of promoting sport, healthy lifestyles and Olympism to young people.
