World Taekwondo Opens Bidding for Events between 2019 and 2024

While the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is about to jointly awarding 2024 and 2028 Games, World Taekwondo opens bidding process for its major events through 2024 to allow cities an opportunity to consider hosting multiple events and leaving greater legacies.

 

SEOUL, Korea (July 17, 2017) - Interested bidders are requested to register their interest by October 27, 2017, ahead of bid file submission by March 4, 2018. The bid files will then be evaluated by a group of expert, before the host city selection is decided at the World Taekwondo Council meeting in Hammamet in Tunisia on April 4, 2018.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said, “I truly believe it is now the right time to extend the opportunity of hosting World Taekwondo events to more cities and countries. We have seen there is a great deal of interest around the world to host our events and by confirming the host cities early we are providing certainty and allowing organizers plenty of time to deliver the best possible event."

 

The events available to bid for include the World Taekwondo Championships, the World Taekwondo Team Championships and the World Taekwondo Grand-Prix Series and the Final. The World Taekwondo Junior Championships, the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships and the World Para Taekwondo Championships are also available.

* The host of the 2022 World Taekwondo Junior Championships will also have the right to organize the World Taekwondo Qualification Tournament for the 2022 Youth Olympic Games. ** World Taekwondo Team Championships can be hosted in conjunction with another World Taekwondo event.
