“It is not just a contract but a partnership.”
SEOUL, Korea (May 23, 2016) - The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) today announced an innovative bidding process for all its WTF events between 2017 and 2021 as it looks to increase dialogue and collaboration with potential hosts from the onset.
The WTF has invited “Partners,” including WTF Member National Associations, cities and countries, who are interested in hosting any of its events between 2017 and 2021. A total of 34 events are available to host cities including the World Taekwondo Championships, the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series and Final, the World Taekwondo Junior Championships, the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, the World Taekwondo Para Championships, and the World Taekwondo Team Championships.
The interested parties will then be invited to a “Partnership Workshop” in Lausanne, Switzerland at the end of June, which will provide an invaluable opportunity to learn more about the obligations of host cities, discuss the benefits of hosting WTF events and raise any questions they have.
The new bidding process will give potential hosts a better understanding of the WTF’s expectations before they enter into a bidding application phase and allow them to determine, in collaboration with the WTF, how hosting an event can fit into their city’s long-term vision.
Prospective partners will have to submit their Bid File until October 21 and will then be invited to deliver a final presentation at the WTF Council meeting on November 14. The WTF Council will then select the host cities.
WTF President Chungwon Choue said: “When a city hosts the WTF event, it is more than just a contract, it is a partnership. The key to any good partnership is communication. We want to place a greater emphasis on interactive communication from the very beginning so that potential hosts fully understand what the benefits and requirements of hosting our events are.”
Choue added, “This new bid process will ensure that the WTF and bid cities will get the very most out of WTF events.”
