SEOUL, Korea (March 19, 2020) - World Taekwondo has decided to hold its Extraordinary Council meeting on 12 May by video conference in order to protect the health of its members in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The meeting had been scheduled to take place in Lausanne at Olympic House. However, following discussion with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it was agreed that given the global travel restrictions in place and the guidance supplied by global and national authorities to limit travel, it was in the interests of everyone involved to cancel the physical meeting.

World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue said:

“The world is facing unprecedented challenges and we all have a responsibility to take measures to support the containment of this pandemic. At the same time, we must continue to operate as normally as possible and ensure we support our athletes and all those who are involved in taekwondo. Thanks to the digital world we live in we can hold our Extraordinary Council meeting remotely, minimizing disruption and allowing our Council to discuss the most pressing issues facing our sport.”
