SEOUL, KOREA (Oct. 14, 2018) - It is with great sadness and a deep sense of shock that World Taekwondo learned of the tragic news that IOC Member and Global Association of International Sport Federations (GAISF) President, Patrick Baumann, has passed away at the age of 51.

Mr Baumann was a leading figure within the Olympic Movement and made an invaluable contribution to the promotion of the Olympic Values around the world.

As President of GAISF he was a great advocate for International Federations (IFs) and always promoted and protected IF interests on the international stage. His visionary leadership as Secretary General of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) provided an example of how to constantly innovate and ensure sport remains relevant to the younger generation.

His loss will be felt by all of us in the Olympic Movement, but he will leave a lasting legacy.

World Taekwondo’s thoughts and prayers are with Mr Baumann’s family and friends at this tragic time.
