Discussion on the Founding of the Altaic Taekwondo Union

Muju, KOREA (Aug 30, 2025) – During the Muju Taekwondowon 2025 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Challenge, representatives from Kazakhstan, Korea, Mongolia, Russia and Turkiye held a meeting with World Taekwondo President Dr. Chungwon Choue to discuss the creation of the Altaic Taekwondo Union.

The initiative aims to bring together 10 nations of the Altaic cultural sphere—Azerbaijan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Russia and Turkiye—into a friendly organization dedicated to strengthening ties through the practice and promotion of Taekwondo.

Participants agreed that the establishment of the Union would provide a new platform for cultural exchange, solidarity, and friendship across borders, while further spreading the values of Taekwondo in the region.

As a next step, the representatives confirmed that the first General Assembly of the Altaic Taekwondo Union will be convened on October 26 at 10:00 a.m. in Wuxi, China, on the occasion of the World Taekwondo Championships. At this inaugural meeting, member nations will decide on the first host city of the Altaic Taekwondo Championships as well as elect the founding President of the Union.
