World Taekwondo Empowers Pan-Am Region Athletes at the WT Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 in Santo Domingo

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Rep. (Apr 2, 2024) - World Taekwondo Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 for the Pan-Am region kicked off in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, at the Albergue Olímpico on April 2, 2024. This camp, organised by World Taekwondo in collaboration with the IOC Olympic Solidarity Team and Pan American Taekwondo Union, aimed to provide high-level training and strategic insights to athletes and coaches gearing up for the Pan American Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games from April 9th to 10th and the Dominican Open 2024 on April 12th.

 

A total of 73 participants, including 56 athletes, and 17 national team coaches, representing 16 countries in the region, gathered for this significant event. Additionally, 3 local technicians and 2 referees participated to enhance their skills in managing competitions effectively.

 

The successful organisation of the camp was made possible through the cooperation of each participating country's National Olympic Committee and National Taekwondo Associations. At the Albergue Olímpico training facility, the participants underwent intensive training sessions led by world-class coaches, Mr. Dongwan Lee and Mr. Youngin Bang, covering various aspects such as individual training techniques, match understanding, tactical strategies for diverse scenarios, as well as the roles and rights of coaches, referees, and administrators in managing competitions.

 

The hands-on experience of using PSS (Protector and Scoring System) during training provided valuable insights for the participants, which will significantly contribute to the future development of Taekwondo in their respective countries.

 

Overall, the World Taekwondo Olympic Solidarity Camp 2024 in Santo Domingo marked a significant milestone in nurturing Taekwondo talent across the Pan-Am region, setting the stage for enhanced performance and competitiveness in future international competitions, including the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games and beyond.
